Manakintowne Specialty Growers is a family owned and
operated farm in Powhatan County, Virginia. Since 1985, we
have been growers and suppliers of fresh cut herbs, salad
greens, micro greens, edible flowers and specialty
vegetables for the best chefs and most adventurous cooks
in Central Virginia. Most of the farm is in full sun, and
we are close to the highest elevation in the county. We
grow seasonally on our twenty-one acres, and our two
greenhouses and cold frames allow year-round production.
We recognize that the health of our soil underlies the
success of our efforts, so we use sustainable farming
methods, such as cover cropping (field peas, buckwheat and
winter rye), crop rotation, companion planting, omposting,
mulching, hand-tending and harvesting. We use row covers,
netting and careful timing for pest control, and row
covers for season extension in the field. Most of our beds
are 100' by 4' or smaller, so each bed and each crop gets
individualized attention, according to its needs. Our
mission is to be good stewards of the land and to provide
people with a delicious, healthy and beautiful product,
along the way building community.
